I was fifteen when they took the computers away. I’m 27 now, a proud mother of two young daughters of my own, but I can still remember the shock, the confusion, and the anger. I’d had a hand-me-down iPhone from either my mum or dad since my eleventh birthday; three generations of the electronic device….
“……….it will be increasingly impossible to distinguish between humans and robots because of our machine-like behavior as much as robots’ human-like features. And could this eventually become the norm, with humans spending their entire lives acting like machines?” ….Brett Frischmann Atticus stood under an overhang of the old Empire State Building in a driving…
When I awakened the next morning, Harlan was already dressed and reclining in an easy chair. His eyes were closed wearily, as though he had not yet had enough sleep. “Morning, Ware,” I called. “How’s the head?” “Glad you’re awake, Andrews,” he replied. “I am bad company for myself this morning, On top of knowing…
The Universe Box “I think it’s done,” he said excitedly holding a box in his arms. She looked up disinterestedly from her oatmeal. “What is it this time?” “I’m not sure yet. I HAVEN’T TURNED IT ON, but I’m pretty sure it creates the universe.” “If you haven’t turned it on then how do you…
We had been so stunned by this horrible finale to our dinner that I don’t think anyone moved until Sally Folsom’s hysterical giggle broke the spell. There followed a few moments of excited discussion, mostly in monotones, while some of the boys admonished Harlan to “buck up,” while others winked and talked about “his having…
The Cable Monkey’s Nursemaid By D.S. Maiorca “Cable monkey! Get out!” He shouted across the crowded bar. Rick knew the voice all too well. It was Jude Riot, roadie extreme, and his boss. He turned and nodded faking a surprised look hoping to pretend not to hear him. After all she was hot, really hot….
I notice that “No Place to Hide,” posted on November 13, is not on the list for voting. Is there a reason for this? If not — accidents do happen — please add it to the list as soon as you can in that its not being on the ballot does put it an unfair disadvantage. (Full disclosure: Yes, I am the author of “No Place to Hide,” so it there is a reason for its elimination I would like to know that too). Thanks.
I was a sleep deprived idiot and forgot to list it- that’s the issue. I fixed the poll. Sorry
Accidents do happen — all is forgiven (and I’ve been there myself, heaven knows). Thanks for the fix!
Glad you listed “No Place to Hide” by Dorr, it is outstanding and it has my vote!
Am I doing something wrong? I’m trying to open these stories to read them, but can’t seem to find a link (tried clicking on the story name, etc.) I’m using an ipad, is that the problem?
On the poll you can only vote. To read the stories you have to go the stories themselves. Use the side bar, either the archives link or story titles to do that.
When does voting end?
Voting closes end of day the 7th.
